One of the best deals I've found in automotive batteries is the Energizer brand at Walmart, these are made by Johnson Controls as were the old school Die Hard batteries.

Valuable information from various online forums.
Johnson Controls make Interstate, Kirkland, Diehard, Motocraft and other brands. I suppose there is some variances, but generally they are pretty good batteries.
Exide make one of the worst batteries and sold at Crappy. Avoid.
I'll second Steve on this one, ours are made by Exide and Exide makes among the worst batteries sold. Interstate or AC Delco would be among my choices.
Agreed on Johnson Control made batteries. Best out there that is readily available anywhere. May be some minor differences among the brands, but for the most part, they should all be reasonably close in spec and quality. Some brands they are sold as:
- Interstate
- Kirkland (Costco)
- Energizer (Wal-Mart)
- Toyota OEM (for some North American made models)
- Several others
I've been buying Interstate and Costco (Kirkland) batteries for some years now, and have been very pleased. I buy the Interstate brand when the Kirkland brand does not have a proper fit.

Most auto batteries are made by just three manufacturers, Delphi, Exide, and Johnson Controls Industries. Each makes batteries sold under several different brand names. Delphi makes ACDelco and some EverStart (Wal-Mart) models. Exide makes Champion, Exide, Napa, and some EverStart batteries. Johnson Controls makes Diehard (Sears), Duralast (AutoZone), Interstate, Kirkland (Costco), Motorcraft (Ford), Optima, and some EverStarts.
===============================================================
Energizer name is licensed and Johnson Controls makes them. Same as Interstate, DieHard, & Duralast. Good batteries. They make some of Ford Motorcrafts, Hondas, and Toyotas.

Notes on Energizer Batteries from various websites:
"Been using the energizer battery for over 6 years no problems at all"
"I just replaced one. The installed date was Oct 2000 = 8+ years"
"They are made by Johnson controls...same maker as Interstate batteries. I have had Interstate batteries for years...very happy with them."
"Interesting that Walmart sells Energizer and Sam's Club (same company) sells the Interstate. The casings look identical."
"I've had Energizer that I bought from Walmart in my older Oldsmobile. No problems with it. In fact in frigid weather it performed very well."
"++1 for energizer batteries from walmart. I have bought two, both were in my possession for more than 5 years, one for more than 150,000 km. Sold both cars with the old battery. For the price, they are a very good buy."
"just bought energizer from wall mart in December. First 3 years you can return it for exchange if something goes wrong. last 3 years you get a pro rate back. This is what I was told at checkout.
You should also have a sticker of the month and year purchased on the battery."
"I bought an Energizer Battery with 24m/72m from Walmart Supercentre in Scarborough. After 39 months (battery failure) I took it back to Walmart for exchange. It was tested & accepted as failed battery. Since my battery lasted over 24 months, my battery fall under the prorate period. I do understand the Prorate portion, deducting money for my usage of the battery."
"Had all energizer battery on all of my 3 cars for the past decade or so.Great price, awesome CCA rating and a good warranty."
"Have an Energizer and it's good. Much much better than that Motomaster crap."
