The purpose of installing this switch is for removing the load from the battery while starting the engine, I wouldn't recommend riding with the headlight switched off if your bikes electrical system was originally designed to run with the headlight on.
(Below is a quote from the Trailtech site)
"YFZ450 Quad with stock regulator/rectifier and stator. The stock lights are completely removed, and the quad now has starting issues. What is wrong ?
Answer: If you do not load the AC system, it will trigger the voltage regulator to shunt the stator (shunt=short=no power output). If the regulator shunts the stator, you get no DC. If you get no DC, your battery will die. If your battery dies, your quad will die. The first symptoms are mid throttle breakup"
Since my bike is ridden strictly off road I've removed the blinkers, the blinker mounting hole is a perfect location for the toggle switch.Remove the headlight cover to gain access to the bundle of wires sitting on top of the headlight. After soldering the wires cover with shrink tubing. My bike is a 1999 XT600E but these TT diagrams will work.
